Term 3.
Welcome back to Term 3.
We will be busy with lots of writing, reading and maths.
This term we will learn about ancient civilisations such as the Aztec, Greek, Egyptian, Roman and Indus.
There is also the school Cross Country so we will be doing lots of fitness to get fit for it.
We are looking forward to having the new 'artificial turf' completed so when the field is closed we have more space to play during break times.

Term 2 is about to end...
It has been a very busy term. We have completed lots of writing and have been learning about fractions. We finished reading 'Frankenstein' and are now reading 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame'.
Our reports are going home today and on Thursday we have our Parent / Teacher / Student interviews where we will discuss our reports and show our parents & caregivers our book work.
Mr McAleer wants us to read lots of books over the holidays and also help around the house.
We are all looking forward to a good rest so we are ready for more work in Term 3.

Rocket lab
We have been building rockets with Miss Erakovich as part of technology class.
We used old plastics bottles which we filled with water and pumped up with air.
We had to make a stand so they stood upright and could fly.
Our experiment was huge success.
Thank you Miss Erakovich for all your help, guidance and expertise.

Fun Run
Today we competed in the Fun Run.
It was hard work but some of us managed 17 laps and everyone did at least 11 laps.
Each lap was 220 meters so everyone ran at least 2.4k, with our top runners doing 3.7k.
That's a lot of running.
Well done to everyone who ran and a special thank you to all our sponsors who gave money to help the school.

Room 25 Assembly.
We did an amazing presentation at today's school assembly.
Everyone was a star and we all looked so cool.
Our presenters [Eashan, Jazleen, Honey Maryjane, Jesse and Azma] were very professional and Honey led us beautifully in our waiata - 'e toru nga mea'
Well done everyone.
Here we are at the end looking relieved it is all over.

Reading.
Reading is a very important part of our work.
Reading what great authors write helps grow our knowledge and also helps us improve our own writing. In junior school we spent a lot of time learning to read.

Local heroes
This term we will be learning about 'Local Heroes'.
Anyone could be a local hero. It might be a swimming instructor, a nurse, someone who collects our rubbish or a student that does 'road patrol' duty.
A local hero is someone who helps others so we make the community a safer and happier place.

Duffy Books
Today we had an Assembly with the Duffy Books Role Models, Tayla and Matt.
We all got two books which we will be able to read over the holidays.

Term 1.
We have had a very busy Term 1.
We have done lots of writing and maths and had quite a few tests.
We had swimming at the Papatoetoe Pools and learnt a lot about our community in the 'Belonging' topic.

Swimming.
Room 25 have started our swimming lessons.
We go to the Papatoetoe pools where we have instructors to teach us. They show us how to be safe and confident in the water as well as how to have fun.
Mr McAleer tells us that swimming is the best fitness we can do and our goal should be to still be swimming at 90.

Week 3
We are now into week 3 and have had our first school assembly. The options have started and many of us are joining a sports team or taking up an art option.
Mr McAleer has started to read 'Frankenstein' to the Piwakawaka [Year 4] team. Some of the boys think it is about zombies !
On Wednesday at 6pm we have 'Meet The Teacher'. Our teachers will be talking about what we will be doing this year and what they expect from us. They will speak about the new classrooms; they are called an 'Innovative Learning Environment' [ILE]. We hope lots of our parents / caregivers will come along to hear what is happening.

We are working hard
Room 25 has been at school for nearly a week now and we are beginning to do lots of work
We are writing a description of Mr McAleer. We think he is old, with grey hair and tells funny stories.
We have started maths and are learning about place value.
Our topic for the term is 'Belonging'. We each belong to our family, our school and our community.
It is fun being in the new classrooms and we know we will have an exciting year.
